Kyrgyzstan is very rich with beautiful and unique sites. In the border zone of the Naryn oblast in 550 km from Bishkek there is another great and fascinating place, named Kok-Kiya valley, which main sightseeing is beautiful lake Kelsuu.
The water in Kelsuu lake is fresh and has a shade of greenish color. The length of the lake is about 15 kilometers.
According to the legends from our of grandfathers and great-grandfathers, in ancient times, Kel-suu quietly flowed along its course. Its residents used the waters to drink and irrigate their lands. Since the river flowed from China, the Chinese batyr Azhymuluk, in order to leave the Kyrgyz people without water, wielded a dam with a ketmen. Water began to fill the reservoir, and the inhabitants of the lowlands left without water were forced to move to other places. In confirmation of this legend, you can see traces of ketmen around the lake.
The Kelsuu lake is located in the upper reaches of the Kurumduk River, the left tributary of the Kok-Kiya, at an altitude of 3,500 meters above sea level. It is a Lake of submerged type, formed from a strong earthquake. Lake Kel-suu is one of the most beautiful alpine lakes of Kyrgyzstan. Climatic conditions: Climate on the lake Kel-suu is cold mountain. The air temperature in the summer is14-16 degrees Celsius in the daytime, and at night can fall below zero. And even during this period snow can fall. The water temperature fluctuates in the summer from +6 to +8 degrees Celsius.
The lake has one unusual feature explaining its name. Kel-Suu is translated from Kyrgyz as “incoming water”. And indeed, sometimes the lake disappears, flowing into underground caves and grottoes, and therefore, before going there, you need to know that the lake can be without any water.
