Description

This tour is for experienced tourists. Trekking to the moraine-glacial lake Ala-Kol, located at an altitude of 3600 meters, awaits you. The path to Ala-Kul Lake begins with a scenic road through the Boom Gorge, along the northern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul, which is the second largest mountain lake in the world after Lake Titicaca in South America. Then we will go up to the Karakol gorge along the mountain road in a four-wheel drive car to the tent camp. Ahead of us is a mountain path to the treasured lake Ala-Kol.

Itinerary

Day 1. Bishkek city – Karakol gorge.

Distance: 425 km

Travel time: 7-8 hours

Meals: lunch and dinner

08:00 – Meeting near the main office of Ak-Sai Travel (Ibraimova 113/2).

08:15 – Briefing. Our guide will tell you about the route, how long it will take, important stops along the way, safety precautions.

08:30 – Departure. Our path passes through the Boom gorge, along the northern shore of Lake Issyk-Kul to the city of Karakol. Stop for lunch at a cafe along the way.

In Karakol, we change to a four-wheel drive car (UAZ, Gaz-66) and move to the Karakol Gorge to our tent camp. Dinner and overnight in tents at the camp.

Day 2. Lake Ala-Kol.

Trek: 9km. / 7-9 hours / +1000 m.

Meals: Full board

08.00 – Breakfast. After breakfast we start our trekking. Descent along the gorge about 3 km, later we cross the river over a bridge and the trail leads us into a forest. Rather long ascent finishes at a steep slope covered with grass, the trail turns into a serpentine, passes by a river overflow, and arrive to an unusual place which is called “Sirota” mountain hut. It is a log hut. There is a table, benches, fireplace inside. We can find a number of sculptures of animals and idols carved in wood around the hut. It looks like a fairy tale place. It is a nice place to sit down, rest, have a snack. Later the trail goes up higher, leaving the forest behind we hike along the river and reach a beautiful waterfall, flowing down from Ala Kol Lake.

There is still a little, a short steep climb and we are on the lake! Ala-Kol is a moraine-glacial lake located at an altitude of 3600 m, stretching from east to west for 2.8 kilometers, its average width is 500 meters and a depth of 70 meters. Ala-Kol in translation from the Kyrgyz – Motley Lake. Depending on the illumination, the water in the lake changes color, it can be emerald-turquoise, diluted with the whiteness of passing clouds, light green, dark gray and even black. Accommodation in a tent camp. We have the opportunity to admire the beauty of the lake, relax. Dinner and overnight at the camp.

Day 3. Lake Ala-Kel – Karakol Gorge – Bishkek city.

Distance: 435 km

Travel time: 9-10 hours

Meals: breakfast, lunch

08:00 – Breakfast. After breakfast, we head back to the Karakol Gorge – a four-wheel drive car (UAZ, Gaz-66) will be waiting for us to move to the city of Karakol. Then we transfer to a comfortable car and go to Bishkek. Stop for lunch at a cafe in the city of Karakol. We return to Bishkek in the evening.
