Established Expedition Camps
Ak-Sai Travel operates base and high altitude camps, supporting climbers every season. A stable camps environment with expert staff allows climbers to focus on acclimatization, recovery, and summit strategy.
Khan Tengri (7010 m) is one of the most striking and respected mountains in the world: a near-perfect marble pyramid rising above the Central Tien Shan on the border of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.
Unlike more accessible 7000 m peaks, Khan Tengri demands both high-altitude endurance and solid technical climbing skills. Steep ridges, exposed sections, glacier terrain, and fixed-rope ascents make this a true alpine challenge.
The expedition begins in Bishkek, continues overland to Karkyra, and reaches South Engilchek Base Camp (4000 m) by helicopter — deep in the Tien Shan among vast glaciers and some of the highest peaks in Central Asia.
Khan Tengri is climbed via the classic Western Ridge route, progressing through a series of high-altitude camps that support acclimatization, rotations, and the final summit push.
The expedition begins at South Engilchek Base Camp (4000 m). From here, climbers move through:
Each stage introduces new challenges, from glacier travel and crevassed terrain to steep snow, ice, and exposed ridge sections equipped with fixed ropes. Proper acclimatization, efficient movement between camps, and careful summit timing are essential.
Khan Tengri is not just about altitude — it is about precision, movement, and decision-making in technical terrain.
Climbers must be comfortable with:
Khan Tengri is a serious 7000 m expedition best suited for climbers who:
Khan Tengri can be climbed as a guided expedition or a self-guided ascent supported by Ak-Sai Travel’s logistics and high-altitude infrastructure.
The right format depends on your technical experience, independence, and confidence in exposed alpine terrain.

A guided expedition to Khan Tengri (7010 m) typically follows a 21-day program designed for acclimatization, technical preparation, and a summit attempt during the most favorable weather window.
The expedition begins in Bishkek, continues overland to Karkyra, and reaches South Inylchek Base Camp (4000 m) by helicopter.
Participants arrive in Bishkek and are transferred to the hotel for rest after international flights.
The journey continues by road to Karkyra (approx. 7–8 hours), passing along the northern shore of Issyk-Kul Lake. Overnight in a tented camp with preparation for the helicopter flight.
A scenic helicopter flight brings the team to South / North Engilchek Base Camp, located among glaciers and surrounded by some of the highest peaks in the Tien Shan.
Short acclimatization hikes around Base Camp, equipment checks, and final preparations for moving onto the mountain.
The route follows the Semenov Glacier toward Camp 1. This section involves crevassed terrain and potential avalanche exposure, typically crossed early in the day.
The first high-altitude rotation includes:
These climbs introduce climbers to steeper terrain, glacier travel, and fixed rope sections before returning to Base Camp.
Return to Base Camp for rest, recovery, and preparation for the summit push.
Equipment checks, weather monitoring, and planning for the summit rotation.
The team climbs again through Camp 1, Camp 2, and Camp 3, positioning for the summit attempt depending on weather and conditions.
The summit push begins early from Camp 3 (5800 m).
The route follows the Western Ridge, including fixed rope sections, exposed traverses, and a narrow summit ridge leading to the top of Khan Tengri.
Descent to Camp 3 after the summit attempt.
Return to Base Camp via Camp 1.
Additional days are included to allow flexibility for:
Helicopter flight to Karkyra followed by overland transfer to Bishkek. Hotel accommodation.
