Established Expedition Camps
Ak-Sai Travel operates base and high altitude camps, supporting climbers every season. A stable camps environment with expert staff allows climbers to focus on acclimatization, recovery, and summit strategy.
Marble Wall Peak (6400 m) is one of the most visually striking mountains in the Tien Shan. Its defining feature — a nearly one-kilometer vertical wall of white and yellow marble — rises dramatically above the glacier and dominates the entire valley below.
Despite its beauty, Marble Wall is a serious alpine objective. The route combines glacier travel, steep snow and ice sections, and exposed ridge climbing, making it an ideal step for mountaineers progressing toward more technical high-altitude expeditions.
The expedition begins at Base Camp (3200 m), the starting point for acclimatization and route preparation on the glacier approach.
The route progresses through a structured high-altitude sequence:
The climb includes:
The summit provides wide panoramic views across the Central Tien Shan, including Khan Tengri and Pobeda Peak.
Climbing Marble Wall Peak offers access to one of the most remote and dramatic regions of Central Asia.
From the summit, climbers are rewarded with panoramic views of:
The summit ridge also marks the natural border between Kazakhstan and China, adding a unique geographical dimension to the climb.
Marble Wall Peak is best suited for climbers who:
This expedition bridges the gap between high-altitude trekking and fully technical mountaineering.
Marble Wall Peak can be climbed in two formats: a guided expedition led by professional mountain guides, or a self-guided ascent supported by Ak-Sai Travel’s established infrastructure.
| Self-Guided | Guided | |
|---|---|---|
| Best For | Experienced climbers comfortable in technical terrain | Climbers progressing into technical alpine climbing |
| Guide Support | No guide included | Professional guide support throughout expedition |
| Route Preparation | Fixed ropes installed on key sections | Fixed ropes + guide support on technical sections |
| Base Camp & Services | Full access to Base Camp infrastructure | Full accommodation, meals, and support |
| High-Altitude Camps | Pre-installed camps available | Installed camps with guided progression |
| Technical Sections | Independent movement (rope teams required) | Guided support on Knife ridge and mixed terrain |
| Summit Strategy | Independent planning | Managed by expedition guide |
| Safety Support | Logistics and communication support | Full expedition safety coordination |
| Flexibility | Flexible schedule | Fixed group departure |
★ Requires confidence on snow, ice, and exposed ridge terrain
★ Ideal for climbers stepping into more technical high-altitude expeditions
A guided expedition to Marble Wall Peak (6400 m) follows a 21-day program designed for gradual acclimatization, technical progression, and a summit attempt during the best possible weather window.
The expedition begins in Almaty and progresses through Base Camp and a series of high-altitude camps on the mountain.
Participants arrive in Almaty and are transferred to the hotel for rest after international travel.
The journey begins with a drive to Zharkulak (approx. 7 hours), followed by a 12 km hike (around 3 hours) to Sliyaniye Base Camp.
The Base Camp is located in alpine meadows at the confluence of the Bayankol and Sary-Goynou rivers.
Facilities include:
Climbers spend two days acclimatizing at 3200 m with light activity and rest, preparing for movement higher on the mountain.
Hike to Camp 1 via non-technical terrain including trails and scree sections. Overnight at Camp 1.
Steep snow and ice ascent to Uzlovaya Peak. This is the first technical section requiring crampons, rope travel, and ice axe skills.
Overnight at Camp 2.
Descent to Base Camp for recovery.
Rest days at Base Camp for recovery, equipment checks, and preparation for the summit push.
Ascent from Base Camp to Camp 1 (4300 m). Non-technical but physically demanding.
Rotation to Camp 2 via steep snow and ice terrain.
Cross the most technical section of the route — the exposed “Knife” ridge (~250 m), equipped with fixed ropes.
The route continues over Border Guard Peak (5000 m) to Camp 3.
Climb over mixed terrain (rock, snow, and ice) with fixed ropes leading to the high camp plateau.
The summit push follows similar terrain at higher altitude, where endurance and acclimatization become critical.
The summit offers panoramic views of Khan Tengri, Pobeda Peak, and the surrounding Tien Shan.
Return to Camp 4.
Descent in rope teams using crampons. Overnight at Camp 3.
Final descent to Base Camp. Celebration and awarding ceremony for climbers.
Additional days are included to allow flexibility for:
Descent to Zharkulak and transfer back to Almaty. Hotel accommodation.
Transfer to the airport for international flights.
Weather conditions in the Tien Shan can change rapidly, especially on exposed ridge sections.
For safety reasons, the exact summit schedule may vary depending on:
Reserve days are included to maximize the chances of a safe and successful ascent.
Independent climbers can plan their ascent during the main climbing season (July–August) using Ak-Sai Travel’s Base Camp infrastructure and route preparation.
Arrival dates are flexible but must align with our expedition specialists after you contact them.
Guided Marble Wall expeditions operate during the peak climbing season with fixed departure schedules from Almaty.
Limited group sizes ensure safe progression through technical sections and optimal guide-to-climber ratios.
